Wildstorm Universe Reading Order!

July 30, 2019 by John Galati 7 Comments

Wildstorm was Jim Lee’s imprint under Image Comics. It was begun as a home for his attempt at creating his unique comics universe, which had three great ideas early on:

1. Make every character origin be about technology and/or government secrets
2. Print holographic, foil, and other gimmicky covers
3. Give up control and invite the best creators in the industry

That last part lead to Wildstorm being bought out by DC in an event they cheekily called “Shattered Image.” [Read more…] about Wildstorm Universe Reading Order!

Pax Americana and The Infinite Loop Of Imperiums

March 25, 2023 by Ritesh Babu 1 Comment

——————————————————————————————————
It is often said that Watchmen is the most influential comic ever to be released. That comics wouldn’t be where they are without it, for good and for ill. But how did we get here, exactly? More to the point, just what influence did Watchmen provide to the larger world of comics? What, ultimately, is the legacy of Watchmen? Who watched the Watchmen?

Rebirth hadn’t yet happened.

Doomsday Clock was not a thing.

Rorschach and the Watchmen TV show didn’t exist.

Only Before Watchmen did.

DC had only made one serious attempt to milk Watchmen and cash-in on it before. And it had bombed, big time. Nobody liked it or cared for it. It was over. They knew it. Everybody did.

And so there was that brief period of time- the quiet calm, the gap between the first big attempt and the next big attempt-wherein it felt like we could perhaps move forward from Watchmen nostalgia. Wherein we could get past it all. And if we were to engage with it, it wouldn’t be literally, by sequelizing it or using characters from it, but rather through the challenges it offered via its formal daring and political critique.

And so let us journey backwards, into that frozen moment, that small gap of time, where the prospect of creators reckoning with Watchmen held a spark of real intrigue.

Welcome to The Multiversity: Pax Americana #1.

A one-shot story utilizing the original Charlton characters upon whom the Watchmen characters were based, constructed for an all new post-Watchmen, post-9/11 world and climate.

Brought to us by the creative team of Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely, Nathan Fairbairn, and Rob Leigh.

Ultimate Invasion Reading Order!

As fans eagerly await the official title of Jonathan Hickman’s mystery Marvel project with Valerio Schiti, Marvel shocked everyone by announcing another 2023 project from Hickman: Ultimate Invasion with Ultimates artist Bryan Hitch. The four issue event launching summer 2023 marks Marvel’s first official return to the “Ultimate” line of comics since 2015’s Secret Wars ended the universe.

We know from Marvel’s announcement that the event will focus on Miles Morales and The Maker, two Ultimate Universe favorites who’ve continued their stories in Marvel’s “prime” Earth-616, as well as the Illuminati, aka Iron Man, Black Panther, Reed Richards, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, Namor, and a returning Professor X (throughout Hickman’s use of the Illuminati in New Avengers, Beast filled this role). The return of the Ultimate Universe has been a long time coming (although I’ve been advocating for it, I honestly assumed Marvel would wait for the 25th anniversary!), and this is one of the most exciting ways it could come back.

Dawn of the DCU Reading Order!

It’s a new dawn for the DC Universe. Following the events of Dark Crisis, the DC Universe has been rebooted. While the continuity hasn’t been restarted unlike post-Crisis on Infinite Earths, the multiverse has and alongside it big changes for the future of the DCU. Dawn of the DCU is the name for the next era of DC Comics following New 52, Rebirth, and the recent Infinite Frontier.

Bendis’ Justice League & The Hierarchy Of Power In DC- Part II

November 1, 2022 by Ritesh Babu Leave a Comment

The unthinkable had happened.

Bendis had moved to DC. He’d done everything except the one thing people expected him to DC- Justice League.

And then he did Justice League. But it was not anything anybody was expecting.

So what on earth was it? Let’s continue to dig in, picking up where we left off…
