We’re still a few months away from the release of Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker and while official sneak-peek details have been thus far relatively sparse, it goes without saying that speculation throughout fandom is at an all-time high. 

As the concluding chapter to one of pop culture’s watershed sagas, so much is riding on how this movie unfolds. Sure, there’s been the fist-pumping teaser trailer and action figure reveals such as the mysteriously red-uniformed Sith Troopers, but really it’s still mostly wide-open curiosity as to where these breadcrumbs go. Marvel doesn’t ever really do the whole “kid sidekick” thing but there’s certainly never been a shortage of young super-powered people trying to make their way in a crazy comic book universe.

Although the landscape doesn’t really reflect it as much these days with the prominence of Young Avengers and the teenage Champions, for years there wasn’t much of a “Junior League Avengers” in the same way DC could seemingly always throw to the Teen Titans. Sure, there was New Mutants but they all wore matching uniforms, clearly signifying as the farm team for the mutant-centric X-franchises. Evil-doing adversaries are an integral part to superhero storytelling, but it’s actually kind of a rarity that they ever get to helm their own series. Sure, you have fence-straddling “anti-heroes” such as Venom or Deadpool and even grey-area vigilantes like the Punisher, but the straight-up baddies? Maybe it’s this lack of respect that keeps them on the wrong side of the tracks. Who knows?
