James Tynion IV Creator-Owned (Indie) Comics Guide!

September 8, 2022 by Gabriel Rodrigues Leave a Comment

James Tynion IV is a GLAAD and Eisner award-winning comic writer known for works like The Nice House on the Lake, Batman, and Detective Comics. His books in DC are impressive, but they only scratch the surface. If you want to know more about Tynion and his best works, checking out his indie comics is a must.

I’ve always read comics, but my obsession with them only started around last year. I was reading more and more each time, but I couldn’t stop seeing one name repeatedly, “James Tynion IV” – who the heck is this guy, I would think. Well, apart from me, he’s one of your favorite writers.

If you like horror, Tynion seems like an inevitable path. Although he has many comics more focused on fantasy and other aspects, you will still see glimpses of his knack for the grotesque, like the use of body horror. His library is made of successes like Boom Studios’ Something Is Killing The Children, Image’s Department of Truth, and now his many Substack creations and his own magazine, Razorblades.

Tynion is not only a great writer but also a very knowledgeable person in the game of comics. He knows a lot about how the industry works and tries to pitch many new ideas and forms of storytelling in it. Honestly, not checking out his indie works is simply a waste, so I’m here to help you out. [Read more…] about James Tynion IV Creator-Owned (Indie) Comics Guide!

Orphan and the Five Beasts Review!

September 1, 2022 by Gabriel Rodrigues Leave a Comment

Chaos and camp. Those are the words for this comic, and I’m all for it. James Stokoe (Aliens: Dead Orbit) creates a crazy kung-fu-inspired world designed to impress and impact us in every way possible, from the writing to the coloring and the characters. He uses all elements at his disposal to make the reader exclaim how cool Orphan and the Five Beasts is. Well, it sure is cool as heck! [Read more…] about Orphan and the Five Beasts Review!

Emma Frost Reading Order!

August 17, 2022 by Gabriel Rodrigues Leave a Comment

Created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, Emma Frost was the White Queen of the Hellfire Club. She initially opposed the X-Men, but soon we started learning more about her and how much she cares about children. After that, Emma began to change sides and have a more friendly relationship with the X-Men and the New Mutants.

Emma is a deep character and she is often said to be one of the most interesting characters in the X-Men universe. She has been part of many acclaimed stories over time, like the New X-Men run by Grant Morrison, Generation X, and the now publishing Krakoan age that started with Hickman’s House of X & Powers of X. Justice League Infinity Review!

August 12, 2022 by Gabriel Rodrigues Leave a Comment

The DC Animated Universe (DCAU) was a big part of my childhood; I know I’m not alone in that. Watching Batman: The Animated Series, Static Shock, and all the other shows always was a good time. That universe gave us what – at the time – we didn’t have with Marvel or any cinematic experience. It ended on TV after Justice League Unlimited concluded, but it continued living on through a few movies and comics.

During the last season of JLU, we saw Lex Luthor forming the Legion of Doom, basically the Justice League for villains. After many failed attempts at destroying the League, Luthor tried to reach godhood again by reactivating Brainiac; instead, he resurrected Darkseid by mistake. In the last episode, the Justice League and the Legion of Doom united to fight Darkseid; however, the one who “defeated” him was Luthor, who delivered him the Anti-Life Equation.

JLU had a near-perfect conclusion, but between its events and the start of Batman Beyond there still were many possibilities; Justice League Infinity represents one of them. From JLU producer James Tucker and animated series writer J.M. DeMatteis, accompanied by artist Ethen Beavers and colorist Nick Filardi, Justice League Infinity is a multiversal (and really nostalgic) adventure that gives a taste of the great DCAU. Crush & Lobo: Not Taking Up The Mantle

July 29, 2022 by Gabriel Rodrigues Leave a Comment

[Variant cover by Dan Mora]

Crush is a new character in the DC Universe. Even though she was part of the Teen Titans for a bit, she still needs a writer with a vision to reach her full potential. Crush & Lobo shows that’s what Mariko Tamaki can and hopefully will be for her. The solo series fully embraces the DC Pride initiative and gives us a few more sides of Crush on a very entertaining journey.
