M.O.D.O.K. Reading Order!

May 12, 2021 by AC Elliott Leave a Comment

George Tarleton was a lowly but smart technician for Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.) and was part of the team that created the Cosmic Cube. A.I.M.’s ruthless pursuit of scientific advancement led George to be transformed into M.O.D.O.K. (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing). M.O.D.O.K. is one of the more visually fascinating characters as the experiments resulted in having a massively oversized head (a side-effect of his super intelligence) and a body bound to a life support system ironically called a “Doomsday Chair.”

M.O.D.O.K.’s intelligence is matched only by his outlandish ambition and murderous tendencies, exemplified by his early career and his clashes against some of Marvel’s premier heroes. In recent years, M.O.D.O.K. has been uniquely positioned with his super intelligence being seen more as a commodity, making his bristling personality cast him as the outlandish foil for some of Marvel’s (almost) equally outlandish heroes. The Thunderbolts Reading Order!

April 22, 2021 by AC Elliott Leave a Comment

The Thunderbolts team itself begins as a spoiler. A well-written and genuinely shocking twist is a key part of the team’s earliest appearances. Suffice to say, spoilers are ahead. [Read more…] about The Thunderbolts Reading Order!

Juggernaut Reading Order!

March 26, 2021 by AC Elliott 1 Comment

Cain Marko (Codename: The Juggernaut) has been rampaging through the Marvel Universe since his first appearance in 1965’s X-Men #12. The Juggernaut serves as the avatar for the ancient deity, Cytorrak, which makes him (nearly) unstoppable. At first glance, the Juggernaut is your classic heavy but once you pry off that comically oversized helmet, you discover a man struggling with his tragic upbringing, sense of morality, and place in the world.

Marko’s step-brother just so happens to be Charles “Professor X” Xavier and their unique relationship has made Juggernaut an X-Men mainstay. But it’s his shifting role between hero, villain, ally, and threat that’s made the Juggernaut to break free of the X-books with memorable parts in stories across the Marvel landscape. US Agent (John Walker) Reading Order

March 12, 2021 by AC Elliott Leave a Comment

At first glance, the US Agent looks and feels like a generic copy of Captain America. As you look deeper you instead begin to see that the US Agent represents a different interpretation of the same concept. Steve Rogers and John Walker both love America but while Rogers’s moral compass is more aligned with the nation and its people, Walker believes almost exclusively in its government. If Cap represents the idealized America that says it won World War II, US Agent top-down, “might make right” world that came after. The one that believed the power of the American military made its government infallible.

The character first appears in 1986 during Mark Gruenwald’s 10-year run on Captain America, and will make his live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Disney+’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” [Read more…] about US Agent (John Walker) Reading Order

Quicksilver Reading Order!

February 18, 2021 by AC Elliott Leave a Comment

Let’s get this out of the way. If the Marvel Universe put together a tournament to crown the most unlikeable character, our friend Quicksilver would be the #1 seed. Pietro Maximoff — along with his sister, Wanda, the Scarlet Witch — graced us with their presence way back in the original Lee/Kirby X-Men. Pietro has remained brash, impatient, and generally the worst throughout his comic history. He also happens to be a world-class speedster who has spent significant time with the Avengers, the Inhumans, the Fantastic Four, and across various X-Books. Let’s get up to speed.
