Marvel Fresh Start Reading Order

Marvel Fresh Start is the 2018 summer rebranding of the Marvel Comics publishing line, following hot on the barely-walking-yet heels of late 2017’s Marvel Legacy.

As the name suggests, Marvel is desperately positioning this rebrand as a great time to jump onboard with any number of comics getting (yet another) number one issue.

Fortunately, the announced creative teams leave plenty of reason for optimism. Below you’ll find a list of Marvel Fresh Start comic book series, and the order in which you should read them.

Would it be possible to add which issues? For example, the first occurrence of Immortal Hulk should be 1-5, but I have to scroll all the way down to the next instance to be able to see that.

When should I start reading Hunt for wolverine? It’s missing from this reading order. Also missing his death of Doctor Strange.

Absolutely love the lists, been following it for years now! But After we hit empyre there is no chronological order for any of the comics anymore other than the big events. I was wondering if it’s going to be updated or if you are just going to be doing the events from now on?

Hey Dave! It would be really helpful if you could add the non X-Men issues like Gwenpool #5, etc to the Dawn of X hardcover reading order and TPB reading order as well. It would be helpful for those who are not reading issue-wise. Thank you!

    Hey,
Im kinda confused how I should go about and start following this list. Is it the reading order you have to read to understand everything or if I don’t want to for example read for example so many x-men or street defender comics, would it be okay to skip it? I am asking because I don’t know if these are the absolutely necessary comics to get to speed with current marvel or not. Thank you in advance and thank you for the list :))

First of all, thank you so much for this. You’ve made it super easy and convenient to get back into Marvel comics. With the help of your guides I’ve gone from Marvel NOW all the way up to Fresh Start (Just recently finished Absolute Carnage).

But looking at the list and planning ahead, I noticed this list stops at Empyre and also seems to be missing some limited series like MEET THE SKRULLS, MAESTRO, GHOST RIDER, DOCTOR DOOM, REVENGE OF THE COSMIC GHOST RIDER etc.

While I do see you cover the major events, it’s nice to know which order to read the ongoing and limited series’ too.

Any Chance you’d be able to update the list up to the current KING IN BLACK, when you have a chance.

    Thank you in advance.

I think Moon Girl is her own entity for the most part (much like Squirrel Girl)… so I think it may be safe to just read on. If it’s a tie in, it’ll usually have a banner across the top.

Why is Marvel so much harder to start reading compared to DC? I know events, crossovers, and generally what is going on in dc. I know that rebirth happened and there was the new 52 before that. I know where to start reading for all the characters in DC, but somehow even after reading this, I still don’t know where to start with Marvel. Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man Vol. 5? I thought stuff started at Vol. 1.

Not sure if you’ll see this, but the Vol you’re refrerring is the Volume of the Comic, not the Volume of the trade inside the comic. So every time that Spectacular Spider-man gets rebooted / Starts with a new Number 1, it’s a new Volume of that book. Hope that makes sense, Def read Chip’s Peter Parker : Spectacular Spider-Man

Some of these “fresh starts” are still continuations I think, but even say Squirrel Girl is at vol 10, each vol is usually a set story arc so sometimes you can just pick up a vol and start reading it no problem. And check the little notes they put in places that refers back/reminds you where whatever they’re referencing in the panel like “see: blah blah #9”

It’s still just such a mess. They need a proper cleanse similar to DC’s Rebirth. I still have no idea where to begin or which universe or whatever. Baffling.

Couple of ways I can think of. Each book above (well, mostly) is published as a link. If you click on it it’ll take you to that book’s place on Amazon. I think Amazon only sells physical books, but I could be wrong. Read it carefully.

Another way is to visit your local comic shop. To find one, go here: https://www.comicshoplocator.com/Home/1/1/57/575 and enter your zip code.

    Hi,
I was trying to find a way to contact other than comments, but couldn’t find it.
I have a quick question about the Marvel Fresh Start list.
What signifies it’s part of the fresh start? How can I tell what’s what, or when they all are coming out? Is there an official list?

I just bought Avengers #1&2 and Venom #1 and Thor: Gates of Valhalla, but Marvel.com only shows a subset of what is listed here, so I was just curious about the difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I’d like to start purchasing this series as they come out.

the wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Fresh_Start_(comics) has an up to date list with release dates of first issues. However, comics (cloak and dagger for example) have been announced right before being dropped so it’s easy to miss them, but just keep checking the wiki page every now and then and it’ll give you the full list, atm there are 22 releases I believe.
