Agents of SHIELD S2 E1 Review! This Time With Meaning

Unlike Gotham which debuted to a fresh, adoring public this week, Agents of SHIELD season two aired last night with a lot of baggage. Season one certainly has its fans, but the general consensus seems to be: Not a very good show, but it got a LOT better after Captain America 2 and the dissolution of SHIELD at the hands of Hydra. I tend to agree, and although I have my own plan for the Season 2 I want to see, I think Agents of SHIELD S2 episode one was able to match the potential exhibited by Gotham in its pilot. So far these are both comic book TV shows defined by potential, and with an entire season under its belt AoS certainly has a shorter forgiveness-leash. GOTHAM: Pilot Review! How Does Batman’s City Hold Up on TV?

I know many fans have been waiting for this show since it was first announced. I myself have been combing the internet for the last year for every piece of information, finding every plot tid-bit to promo. Now that it is finally here, how does “Gotham” stack up? To be fair, Batman has not had the most impressive track record for live-action television adaptions. Other than the Adam West “Batman TV Show” from the 1960s, there was the financial failure “Birds of Prey” (2002) which was a poor adaption of the Batman mythos. Thus “Gotham” marks the first time in over 50 years that a live-action story of the “Dark Knight” returns to the small screen. I spend a lot of time talking about the wonders and tribulations of Marvel Unlimited, but a reader question reminded me this week that Marvel’s app game is potentially confusing. Avengers Assemble #9 – #13 Review! Marvel NOW’s Cinematic Infusion

I had half a mind to exclude Avengers Assemble altogether from my Marvel NOW! reading order. Partially this was because of how uninterested I found myself in the Brian Michael Bendis helmed first seven issues (when Zodiac and Thanos fall flat, you know you’re in trouble), but mostly because Avengers Assemble is the most heavily connected to the Marvel cinematic universe of any Marvel comics. In many ways, this is a comic that feels disconnected from Marvel continuity at large (it’s kind of a hobby). Nonetheless, with Kelly Sue Deconnick taking writing duties, and with a long run of tie-ins to Age of Ultron and Captain Marvel: The Enemy Within, Avengers Assemble has earned its place in the Marvel NOW! reading order (literally the highest honor I can bestow).
