A Quick One While He’s Away: Listen to Deadpool the Musical!

January 26, 2012 by Dave Leave a Comment

Hey! So I’m totally not caught up with my Deadpool reading at ALL, but apparently Deadpool is the latest and greatest to become a part of Marvel’s ongoing Point One series (they do an issue 40.1, for example, which explains everything that happens in issues 1-40. In theory, it’s everything I’ve ever asked for in keeping readers up to date with their favorite comics, but I’ll have to collect my thoughts on it in full some time. Like why you have to pay for the recap issue in addition to your new comics…).

For the recap issue, current Deadpool writer Daniel Way wrote as if the comic were a musical. This is a perfectly insane creative decision for a Deadpool comic, and even better yet, the book’s editor Jordan D. White WROTE AND PERFORMED ALL THE DAMN MUSIC. In real life. And you can listen to it right now, for free, just by clicking through! [Read more…] about A Quick One While He’s Away: Listen to Deadpool the Musical!

Casanova Comics Volume One: Good, Bad, Or Ugly?

January 22, 2012 by Dave 1 Comment

Take James Bond. Do it. Just grab him by the neatly pressed suit jacket and make him have a baby with Han Solo. Make them have that baby.

Good.

Now take the baby and soak it in the acid-drenched residue of Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds. Soak the baby. Be careful, it’s a baby.

Good. We’re almost there.

Now, if you would, promptly raise this man-child baby into a Super-Space-Spy where time travel is a reality. Good. We are now looking into the essence of Casanova Quinn. And damn is it interesting. [Read more…] about Casanova Comics Volume One: Good, Bad, Or Ugly?

Questions for Quentin: Did You Really Watch Green Lantern?

January 18, 2012 by Dave Leave a Comment

Yesterday news broke HARD that Quentin Tarantino  liked Green Lantern.

I like Quentin Tarantino. I’m a very casual fan, but I enjoy my Inglorious Bastards like the next guy. Still, critically acclaimed director or not, Tarantino has gone too far with his latest comments. I’m a tolerant man (can hold my liquor quite well, thank you very much) but a man saying he likes the Green Lantern movie? That is appalling behavior. That is a crime in the eyes of humanity. That is just plain wrong.

Life Lessons From Archer Season One

January 16, 2012 by Dave 1 Comment

I haven’t really learned a lot about life from Archer season one. I think maybe I learned about avoiding ants in my office place, and also to never EVER use “M as in Mancy” when trying to communicate letters over the phone, but otherwise, this isn’t really a life lessons kind of show. That said, it did make me think a lot about the potential for animated television and how that relates to the comic book industry, the benefits of in-laws and also the Arrested Development movie that may or may not happen.  [Read more…] about Life Lessons From Archer Season One

Today on Comic Book Herald, I’ll be offering a guided tour through Wolverine Origins #11-20. Before we begin, I should note that this tour is off-limits to those who grow squeamish at the mere sight of a disemboweling, as well as those who have not read Wolverine Origins #1-10. For a look at where these comics fit into the grand scheme of Marvel continuity, check out my Marvel reading order list! [Read more…] about Herald Guided Tour: Wolverine Origins #11-20 and Annual #1
