Magneto rules, y’all. I would say he is the best villain in comics, but slotting him into a strictly villainous role does him a disservice. The mutant master of magnetism has been everything from a cackling murderous despot to a kind, understanding mentor to the next generation of his people. Given his nearly 60-year history, it is tough to narrow down the best stories starring Erik Lensherr (or Max Eisnerhardt, or Magnus depending on which stories are currently in continuity). This book is the little book that could. Right from the beginning I was intrigued as to how well a stand alone Magneto title could possibly do. But month after month, I have been pleasantly surprised to it being a proper comic book. The first issue in the March to Axis comes in the form of the latest issue of Magneto. Magneto has been one of my favorite new Marvel comics of the year and has given us one of the best anti-hero stories that I’ve found in the comics medium. It’s also one of my favorite iterations of the Magneto character out of everything that I’ve read. I’ve been trying to tell everyone I know to check this one out. As I said earlier this is a prelude of sorts for Marvel’s fall event, Axis, combing one of my favorite comics with one of my most anticipated comics of the year.
