I Can Legacy Clearly Now #11: Invincible Iron Man #593 – Ironborn

October 25, 2017 by Dave Leave a Comment

Saying Brian Michael Bendis has a prolific Marvel Comics career is a bit like saying Cal Ripken Jr. played a handful of baseball games. Bendis has been a driving force at Marvel since 2000, crafting everything from Alias (AKA Jessica Jones) to Ultimate Spider-Man to his most recent run across Marvel’s Iron Man titles.

Question of the Week: Can You Do an Iron Man Reading Order?

September 14, 2015 by Dave 11 Comments

Iron Man has become remarkably popular since the Robert Downey Juniorfication of the character in 2008’s MCU debut. So naturally, I saved his reading order for last among the founding Avengers (#timelycomics). [Read more…] about Question of the Week: Can You Do an Iron Man Reading Order?

SUPERIOR IRON MAN #1: Tony Stark: Earth’s Mightiest D-Bag

November 16, 2014 by Matt Lehn Leave a Comment

As a byproduct of widespread super-personality wackiness currently making its way through the Avengers & X-Men: Axis storyline, Marvel has relaunched Iron Man with a whole new m.o. Oddly enough, it falls well into place with the billionaire industrialist’s old m.o. pre-life-changing chest wound. Decidedly off the wagon, Tony is making fresh starts all over the place: new armor, a new city, a new attitude and a new creative team. Although the perspective may be questionable, the actual changes themselves seem pretty good so far. [Read more…] about SUPERIOR IRON MAN #1: Tony Stark: Earth’s Mightiest D-Bag

Avengers & X-Men: Axis #2 Review! It’s All Your Fault Tony Stark

Two issues in, and we already get a giant battle between a demon Nazi with two giant robots and a large percentage of Marvel’s biggest characters. Apparently Rick Remender didn’t get the message that Marvel events are supposed to hold back on anything exciting until the last issue (or maybe last two), and the rest of the event is meant to promise that something cool is coming like they’re dangling a shiny object in front of our faces. Anyway, Axis began on a good if not spectacular note, but how does the second issue continue the tale of Red Onslaught’s rampage? [Read more…] about Avengers & X-Men: Axis #2 Review! Marvel NOW! Review! Iron Man vol 2 & vol 3: The Secret Origin of Tony Stark

September 8, 2014 by Dave Leave a Comment

Origin stories are a staple of superhero comic book lore, as essential to the mythology as wolves to romulus & remus or sweet teeth to Hansel & Gretzel. At some point, every comic book fan wants to know how their heroes got their start, which is why we see miniseries like Wolverine’s “Origins” getting a second chance at life a decade after the original. Within the last decade, this obsession with origins has also led to the more dramatic “secret origin,” the twist or new light brought to a revisiting of an established character’s roots. Typically, “secret origins” has been a DC Comics labeling, with the likes of Green Lantern’s Secret Origins launching a modern favorite run on Hal Jordan (and ultimately spawning a disaster of a film). It was only a matter of time before Marvel co opted the language, and hence, we have Kieron Gillen and Greg Land’s “The Secret Origin of Tony Stark.” [Read more…] about Marvel NOW! Review!
