Wonder Woman 1984 Movie Review!

December 28, 2020 by Comic Book Herald Staff 5 Comments

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but this Christmas HBO Max and Warner Bros released Wonder Woman 1984 via their streaming service in response to the ongoing global pandemic. Wonder Woman is the first big 2 superhero movie released since February 2020’s Birds of Prey, and the sequel to 2017’s immensely successful Wonder Woman.

To break down the instantly divisive film, Comic Book Herald writers and superb comic book critics Sara Century and Zoe Tunnell jump in to talk all things Wonder Woman 1984. [Read more…] about Wonder Woman 1984 Movie Review!

What Was Wonder Woman Really Up To In 1984?

December 24, 2020 by Sara Century Leave a Comment

Wonder Woman has been around for a really long time – since 1941, in fact! Yet, there are huge swathes of her comic book history that modern readers know next to nothing about. Diana, Princess of Themyscira, is a character that spent a notable portion of her history being written by writers that didn’t seem to fully click with her, which makes revisiting her vintage era a pretty dubious prospect for even her most ardent fans.

Yet, it is also true that a lot of the less-remembered comics of DC’s Silver and Bronze Ages are full of underrated gems, so it’s always at least worth a look. With the release of Wonder Woman 84, it got me wondering – what exactly was Diana up to in 1984? For that, dear reader, we have to look to Wonder Woman Vol. 1 #311-322. Daredevil at Christmas: Good Grief & The Man Without Fear

December 23, 2020 by Matt Draper Leave a Comment

When I think about two characters that I relate to, whether I’m feeling my worst or my best, I think of two icons who have more in common than you may think: Daredevil and Charlie Brown.

I know what you’re thinking, how are a superpowered blind lawyer who dresses up in a devil costume to fight crime and a little boy who just can’t seem to catch a break anything alike? Well, the similarities become the most clear in their Christmas stories. [Read more…] about Daredevil at Christmas: Good Grief & The Man Without Fear

The End is in the Beginning & Yet You Go On | New Mutants Omnibus Review

December 19, 2020 by John Galati Leave a Comment

Legendary X-Men writer Chris Claremont has a real knack for murdering heroes. From The Phoenix Saga to Muir Island, he knows how to time and execute major cataclysms only to use the resulting vacuum as a space for new characters to step in. And that’s exactly how the New Mutants team begins. It’s right there in the title: “The X-Men have seemingly been killed by The Brood, so here are some New Mutants.“

But anyone can just wipe out characters. What makes Claremont so special is that he never replaced anything. Again, it’s in the title: this isn’t just “more X-Men.” And in so many ways, this series truly was/is something new… even as it says “goodbye.” [Read more…] about The End is in the Beginning & Yet You Go On | New Mutants Omnibus Review
