Agents of SHIELD Episode 3 Season Two Review! Aos Vs. The Flash Debut

October 8, 2014 by Dave 5 Comments

I had a moment about midway through Agents of SHIELD episode 3 where I wondered if perhaps I’m too hard on Agents of SHIELD, if perhaps my expectations are too high. I also watched CW’s The Flash last night, and found that first episode exhilarating, enjoyable, and most importantly, FUN. I was completely able to take the cheesy lumps – the “subtle” references to speed every fourth sentence, the romantic entanglements of a CW show – and just enjoy them as part of a fun-filled whole. Mid-way through Agents of SHIELD I asked out loud if the show is really so much less fun, or if I’m just significantly less forgiving. Why doesn’t Agents of SHIELD feel so easy to love? Battle of the Atom Overview

October 6, 2014 by Thomas Bacon 2 Comments

The fiftieth anniversary of the X-Men was, of course, an event to be celebrated!  In 2013, the current stable of main X-Men writers – Jason Aaron, Brian Bendis, and Brian Wood – got together to write up the celebratory event.  The original concept was Jason Aaron’s, building on concepts he’d played with before in his popular ‘Wolverine and the X-Men’ (most notably in #29). Thor #1 Review! Is It Worthy?

October 4, 2014 by Matt Lehn Leave a Comment

Early fall has always been a time for fresh starts. Schools are back in session and new television shows hit the air. All around, it seems like a good time to get in on the ground floor of just about anything. Likewise, Marvel has relaunched Thor this week with a new number one as part of the “Avengers Now!” branding initiative. However, autumn is also often fraught with ominous symbolism, what with the withering, harvesting and the “winter is coming” of it all. Fittingly, these glooming overtones are well represented within the latest inaugural chapter of writer Jason’s Aaron’s ongoing saga of everyone’s favorite Odinson. [Read more…] about Thor #1 Review! Guardians 3000 #1 Review! Live, Die, Repeat

October 3, 2014 by Travis Bass 2 Comments

They’re baaaaack! The original Guardians of Galaxy created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan back in 1969, are the 31st century cosmic superhero team from Earth-691. This particular team got its own solo series back in the early 1990s, which was written and drawn by Jim Valentino. After its cancelation, this team drifted around in almost total obscurity unless you were a hardcore old-school Marvel Cosmic fan, until Dan Abnett and Andy Landing introduced several members as guest-stars in their acclaimed Guardians of the Galaxy reboot. So now with the success of the Guardians of Galaxy film, writer Dan Abnett and artist Gerardo Sandoval return to the 31st century to continue the adventures of the original Guardians. So how does this issue do introducing audiences to a Guardians team that doesn’t have a talking raccoon?  [Read more…] about Guardians 3000 #1 Review! Live, Die, Repeat
