Tarot Reading of X-Men: X of Swords Chapter 8 – Cable #5!

October 16, 2020 by Gabi Echenique 1 Comment

Editor’s Note: Tarot Readings are a major thematic and stylistic component of the 2020 X-Men comics event, X of Swords. Since it’s not a field I know, I’m excited to bring in a specialist to provide unique readings based in the Tarot connections of the story. We’ll be running these Tarot examinations following each of the event’s 22 parts. Enjoy!

Mutants are taking part in a quest for the protection of the whole Earth. Each of the 22 chapters on their journey corresponds with a Major Arcana card from Tarot. This time let’s see how Cable #5 and The Chariot are related. [Read more…] about Tarot Reading of X-Men: X of Swords Chapter 8 – Cable #5!

Warhammer 40,000: Marneus Calgar #1 Review!

October 15, 2020 by Mark Turetsky & Stuart Wellington Leave a Comment

Mark Turetsky: Salve, Stuart! I’m glad we could meet up for Kieron Gillen’s glorious return to Marvel Comics (his last work for the publisher was the ongoing Star Wars series, plus a one-pager for Marvel Comics #1000). Before we dive into this issue, I thought we could discuss in general terms what Warhammer is. My understanding is that it’s an AU fic of HG Wells’ Little Wars that kinda got out of hand?

Stuart Wellington: Hail, Battle Brother! That is a little bit of shorthand, but basically correct. Warhammer 40,000, or 40K, is a miniature wargame produced by Games Workshop for the last 30-odd years. To flesh out the games, they have spun a backstory that is both shockingly simple, and mind-bogglingly labyrinthine. [Read more…] about Warhammer 40,000: Marneus Calgar #1 Review!

So far, every chapter on the X of Swords event has been related to one of the 22 Major Arcana cards from a tarot deck. Hellions #5, is no exception, as it corresponds with card number #5 The Hierophant. [Read more…] about Tarot Reading of X-Men: X of Swords Chapter 6 – Hellions #5!

Creannotators #21: “Tartarus” Interview With Writer Johnnie Christmas!

October 13, 2020 by Dave Leave a Comment

This week on Creannotators, I talked with writer Johnnie Christmas about his work on Tartarus, a science fiction series full of supernatural mythology from Image Comics. We talk about coordinating massive worldbuilding, the balance between writing and illustrating comics, and future plans for Tartarus among other topics!

On Comic Book Herald’s ‘Creannotators’ I’ll be interviewing some of my favorite creators in comics about specific runs, graphic novels or series, looking for their insights on the inspirations behind the work and ideas or hidden material readers may have missed. Creannotators is an audio/visual annotative guide to enjoying the intricacies and thinking in the art. Thanks for listening, and enjoy the comics!
