Ava Ayala (White Tiger) Reading Order!

April 18, 2022 by Gabriel Rodrigues Leave a Comment

Ava Ayala is the third person to be the White Tiger. She has always idolized her brother Hector, the first to assume the mantle and become an active Hispanic hero. He is her role model. But, one day, Gideon Mace attacked her house, injuring Ava and killing her parents and sister Awilda. Hector was devastated and gave up on being a hero.

After Hector’s death, Angela Del Toro – Awilda’s daughter – inherited the White Tiger amulet. But when she was corrupted by Hand ninjas, she had to be imprisoned. The tiger amulet fell into Ava’s hands; as a teenager, she decided to join Avengers Academy, hoping she would learn how to be a great hero.

After that, she had many adventures with the Mighty Avengers and the New Avengers. Her past with Gideon Mace and not fully controlling the Tiger God, the spirit that gives power to the amulet, are constant problems she faces. The character is captivating and should be more talked about and explored. If you like her, try to check her appearances in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series; she is a relevant character in Spider-Man’s team. [Read more…] about Ava Ayala (White Tiger) Reading Order!

CBH Birthday Challenge: Batman #34

April 17, 2022 by Dave Leave a Comment

A couple years ago, I decided to spend a birthday reading and writing about comics that shared an issue number with my new age. Some people like to celebrate with “cake” and “parties” with “friends,” but obviously I choose comics. So, for Big Daddy Dave’s birthday 34, I’m picking another issue #34, surprisingly off the beaten path, picked because I’ll soon be watching The Batman on HBO Max and I’m in the mood for Dark Knights.

Marvel Then: Days of Future Now

April 16, 2022 by Austin Gorton Leave a Comment

When Marvel Now looked to the past to drive the future of the X-Men

When Marvel Comics’ two biggest franchises, the X-Men and the Avengers, joined together for the sprawling “Avengers vs. X-Men” event storyline, the two teams came to blows over the fate of young Hope Summers as the cosmic Phoenix Force bore down on the planet. In the real world, the storyline represents something of a pivot point in Marvel’s history. Prior to the crossover event, the Avengers and the X-Men were in two very different places. Throughout the 1990s (and really, much of the 80s), the X-Men had been one of Marvel’s top franchises, consistently posting strong numbers across the line and helping keep the company afloat during its corporate malfeasance-triggered bankruptcy. But in 2000, acclaimed independent writer Brian Michael Bendis came to Marvel and launched Ultimate Spider-Man, reimagining Spider-Man for a modern audience. The critical and commercial success of that project expanded Bendis’ profile at Marvel, and by 2004, he was handed the keys to the Avengers. [Read more…] about Marvel Then: Days of Future Now
