While this isn’t the first issue to set up Marvel’s next event, Uncanny Avengers #24 marks the first issue that officially places one of Rick Remender’s titles (who is going to write the event) on the path towards Axis. This is the first issue not directly involved with the excellent Apocalypse Twins/Kang arc that Remender has been writing for over two years. Still picking up the pieces from the major fallout of that story, we revert back to the Red Skull plot point introduced during the first arc of this title (which was great by the way). So how does this title do picking up where the last arc left off and set things up for Marvel’s next event. [Read more…] about Uncanny Avengers #24 Review! The Road to Axis Continues
Thor God of Thunder #25 Review! Setup & Backstories
So ends Thor God of Thunder, my favorite title being published by Marvel; except it’s not the end. While issue 25 is the last of this title, the story will continue in the upcoming Thor book which will continue being written by Jason Aaron. Really this is just an example of how much Marvel loves launching titles so they can have more #1s. However, this really doesn’t bother me that much because the story and the artwork have been so amazing throughout, and look like they will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. So with that being said, how does issue 25 cap off this volume of Thor, and set things up for the future. [Read more…] about Thor God of Thunder #25 Review! Setup & Backstories
Ms. Marvel #8 Review! Teleporting Mustachioed Dogs
G. Willow Wilson continues to inject Ms. Marvel with more of the Marvel Universe, while at the same time keeping the title its own distinct entity separate from the rest of the universe. Adrian Alphona returns for art duties after Jake Wyatt filled in for the last two issues. After the first five issues introduced us to Kamala and her world, issues 6 and 7 injected the X-Men (or Wolverine) into her title, and now this arc begins to insert the Inhumans (she doesn’t know she is one). This is being done one step at a time by introducing an adorable magic animal (I know he’s not “magical”) in the form of Lockjaw as Kamala’s new pet. [Read more…] about Ms. Marvel #8 Review! Avengers Undercover #10 Review! It all… ends… HERE
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
Seriously!
So we’ve finally reached the end to the journey that began in Avengers Arena. What began as a transparent Hunger Games knock off when it was announced turned out to be a well written, character driven tale that was an exciting read from start to end. The survivors of that book continued their adventures in Avengers Undercover which posited whether or not the experiences these characters dealt with would result in them turning to the dark side and joining up with Baron Zemo’s organization. Black Widow #10 Review! The Spider and the Archer
Before I get to this issue, isn’t it just impressive that this book has had the same writer and artist for ten issues straight, and the book has remained on time? That rarely happens now (unless your artist is John Romita Jr. or Mark Bagley) in either Marvel or DC titles, and even Image titles need to pace themselves out. Now to issue #10.
