Marvel Comics The Untold Story Rewind Review: Fantastic Four Number One

September 15, 2012 by Dave 1 Comment

Through my usual series of suave and gentlemenly maneuvers (lucky, I just got lucky), I managed to get my hands on an advance copy of Sean Howe’s Marvel Comics: The Untold Story. The insanely detailed biography covers the complete insider history of Marvel, from Captain America punching Hitler to present. I’m still making my way through the book (Jim Starlin and Steve Gerber are wreaking havoc on Marvel’s 70’s comics at the moment), but as I do so I’m finding that the book is providing a ton of inspiration to go back and enjoy early, iconic marvel story-lines. And you don’t get much earlier or more iconic than Fantastic Four #1.  [Read more…] about Marvel Comics The Untold Story Rewind Review: Fantastic Four Number One

Daredevil: Lady Bullseye #111 – #115 Review

September 3, 2012 by Dave Leave a Comment

Guys… I haven’t been the biggest fan of Ed Brubaker‘s run on Daredevil. It’s a shame, and I love Brubaker’s work on a number of characters, from Captain America to Iron Fist, but it’s been a questionable run since The Devil In Cell Block D. A lot of this is unfair because Daredevil has been one of Marvel’s most consistently enjoyable arcs of the 2000’s. Ever since Kevin Smith got the ball rolling, and Brian Michael Bendis put together one of the finest ongoing superhero arcs I’ve ever read, Daredevil has been a highlight. So expectations are higher than Method Man at a Bob Marley tribute concert. This is the major reason why a new arc titled “Lady Bullseye” is a little tough to stomach. And possibly also the reason it’s so refreshing to see Brubaker bring Daredevil back to the level of creativity the arc deserves. [Read more…] about Daredevil: Lady Bullseye #111 – #115 Review
