I had no intention of watching Castlevania on Netflix (I have a strictly light 1-show at a time diet), when I saw a tweet from all-time great comic book writer Warren Ellis announcing his involvement writing and producing the recently released season two of Castlevania. While I don’t have time for a new animated show in my life, I always have time for literally any story from the mind of Warren Ellis.

The Best New Image Comics of 2018
There’s a prevailing sense this year that Image Comics has stalled, and it’s not hard to see why. Breakout mega hits like Saga and Walking Dead are either on hiatus or well past the thrill of feeling new.
Likewise, juggernaut series (and some of my all-time favorite comics) Invincible and Kill or Be Killed officially concluded this year. Toss in some great ones that are steadily meandering through exciting long arcs (East of West, Sex Criminals, Black Monday Murders), and the creator-owned publishing haven doesn’t seem as hot as it has in years past. Black Mask (Publisher) Guide Now Live!
One of my favorite additions to my ongoing comic book reading in 2018 has come from relatively new publisher, Black Mask. Not to be confused with the Batman villain, the socially conscious and politically progressive comics house is consistently putting out some of the most interesting books in comic shops these days, with the literary ambition of Vertigo Comics coupled with a sense of humor.
