What do you want from a follow-up to Avengers: Endgame? Historically, Marvel has followed up the biggest most game-changing events in the MCU with lighter comedies or character introductions (Ant Man & The Wasp, Doctor Strange). The reaction has been a mix of praise (this mint after a heavy meal is exactly what was needed!) and resignation (well, I guess not every story can be the biggest one ever told).
For my money, the MCU’s never needed a transition film with a sense of purpose as strongly as Spider-Man: Far From Home. The entire MCU has come to as close to an ending as a comic book storytelling perpetual motion machine can come. Mysterio’s always been one of the more interesting Spider-Man villains by virtue of his idiosyncratic approach to crime. In a rogues gallery full of animal-powers (Rhino, Scorpion, Lizard), goblins (Green, Hob, etc), and Octopi with advanced degrees, the dramatic actor with a half fish bowl helmet and relatively vague power of trickery certainly stands out.
Threats like Norman Osborn and Carnage may throw Spider-Man’s life upside down, but it’s always nice to know Spidey’s got his own personal Gob Bluth running around:

We’ve all had enough of origin stories. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse course corrects with the perfect reinvention of origins, looping recurring beginnings through a multiversal processor until the residual DNA is part of a broader narrative. Miles Morales’ own origin is streamlined and merged with Marvel’s 2014 Spider-Verse event, somehow defining the character more clearly and more engagingly with an additional cast of Spider-Man origins on the side.
