Delinquents #1 Review! Hobo Kings, Butt Maps, and Evil Agriculture Companies

August 21, 2014 by Travis Bass Leave a Comment

Before I get to the content of this issue, let me just say that if you have not read any of the Archer and Armstrong or Quantum and Woody comics that Valiant has been publishing the past couple of years, this is not the best entry point for either series. Now I don’t mean that in order to read this comic you need to be up-to-date with both series; all you need to read is the first arc of both books so you can understand the power sets, attitudes, and character relationships of both teams. You can sort of piece things together if this is your first exposure to these characters, but you will get the most out of this issue if you go into this already knowing everyone. I’m telling you this because I’m coming from someone who has read both books, so I’ll be reviewing this comic from that point of view. If you haven’t read either book, you can skip this issue. If you have read either (or preferably both) books, well lets get to that now. [Read more…] about Delinquents #1 Review! Hobo Kings, Butt Maps, and Evil Agriculture Companies

Magneto #8 Review! “To What Lengths”

August 21, 2014 by Jeff Ayers 1 Comment

This week gives us the final story in this arc of MAGNETO before this book starts to directly tie into the upcoming AXIS event. Another superb outing by Cullen Bunn, each issue in this series has been building up to what happens, and what is bound to happen, in this comic series. Gambit Reading Order Part 4: Late 90’s and Early 2000’s

The late 90’s were difficult times to be writing the X-Men.  In Wizard #90, Steve Seagle gave vent to his frustrations:

Old-School X-Men with Lincoln Crisler: Uncanny X-Men #197

August 19, 2014 by Lincoln Crisler 2 Comments

Last week’s installment gave us an issue from Claremont’s classic run that pretty much flipped the X-Men’s typical moral stance on its backside, with Rachel calling for the quick demise of a mutant-hating human and Magneto of all people coming down on the side of peace. This week’s issue, featuring Arcade, is much more black-and-white. Arcade, bless his heart, doesn’t leave much room for moral gray areas. By this time, his character has been around for most of a decade and has tangled with the X-Men a few times in the past, making for some pretty memorable stories from the early Eighties. He’s more or less a blend of the Joker and the Riddler, and his stories usually involve a theme park with deathtraps, which makes for fun reading, even if he never, ever beats the heroes he traps, which doesn’t do much to set him up as a serious threat. Marvel NOW: Iron Man Vol 1 “Believe” Review and Walkthrough

August 18, 2014 by Dave Leave a Comment

Marvel events of the modern era have a tendency to beat the living daylights out of the decade’s surprise comic book movie savior, Iron Man. Civil War positions ol’ shellhead against his best friend and fellow Avenger, Captain America, Secret Invasion corrupted everything from Stark industries to Tony Stark’s own biology, Dark Reign completely unmade the man, and Fear Itself got so dire we saw the return of a certain demon in a bottle. By contrast, Avengers vs. X-Men, the Marvel event that leads into Marvel NOW! was a walk in the park. Tony spends most of his time tinkering on devices to solve the situation, and although he only succeeds to varying degrees, it’s a comparatively peaceful conclusion to a 60+ issue, four year run on the character from Matt Fraction and Salvador Larocca.
