Old-School X-Men with Lincoln Crisler: Uncanny X-Men #196

August 12, 2014 by Lincoln Crisler 3 Comments

After last week’s lackluster (in my humble, and frequently-refuted, opinion, of course) issue featuring the Power Pack, Claremont gets us back on track with an X-Men issue that’s about…you know…the X-Men. Uncanny #196, with art by Romita, Jr. and Green, opens with Professor X teaching, not his mutant proteges, but a psychology class at Columbia University. His telepathy kicks in and he “hears” one of his students thinking about killing someone. Despite the efforts of the Morlocks’ Healer, however, he’s still not completely recovered from the beating he took a few issues back, and he doesn’t feel capable of scanning the entire lecture hall to figure out exactly who’s plotting murder in their mind. Of course, that doesn’t mean Charles is throwing in the towel. [Read more…] about Old-School X-Men with Lincoln Crisler: Uncanny X-Men #196

THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #32 Review! The Edge of the Spider-Verse

August 9, 2014 by Jeff Ayers 4 Comments

This week’s issue of Superior Spider-Man is — wait, hold up. Didn’t that series end, you ask incredulously, losing faith in me with every word? You are right, astute reader, but read on! The master web-spinner Dan Slott has had this all planned out from the beginning, you see, and it will all make sense as soon as we get through this together. Christos Gage’s script, coupled with the artistic team of Giuseppe Camuncoli, John Dell and Antonio Fabela, bring this interesting addendum story to life in a way readers have come to expect and cherish from a Spider-Man title. She-Hulk #7 Review! Honey I Shrunk the Superheroes

August 9, 2014 by Big Phil 4 Comments

She-Hulk has been firing on all cylinders and this issue is no exception. This is a rather unique book and I’ll admit it’s not for everyone. Although some people may not like it, I like that Marvel is taking more chances on books like this. One of the main reasons that She-Hulk may turn you off is due to the fact that the book is more about She-Hulk’s life than her super heroing. It also has a unique art style instead of the classic no risks style. If you’re like me and you happen to like the unique writing and art, then this may be the book for you. Moon Knight #6 Review! A Perfect Spectre

August 8, 2014 by Jeff Ayers Leave a Comment

Moon Knight is a character with a sordid past, on the page and off. The newest incarnation from Warren Ellis and Declan Shalvey has breathed new life into a hero — or anti-hero —  that many in the Marvel Universe can either take or leave. This issue sees a different side of the coin, as Moon Knight himself isn’t featured as much as you might suspect. [Read more…] about Moon Knight #6 Review! A Perfect Spectre

Rocket Raccoon #2 Review! My Favorite Raccoon Book

August 8, 2014 by Big Phil Leave a Comment

Rocket Raccoon is hands down the most fun comic book you can find on the shelves today. The book stars Rocket Raccoon and Groot while perfectly capturing their friendship. It understands what it is and doesn’t take itself too seriously, like so many books out there. From front cover to back the book keeps a consistent tone which is distinctly different from any other Marvel book. The cohesiveness of the book is in part due to the fact that both the writing and art is done by Skottie Young. While Skottie Young also does the cover art, he did need some help from Jean-Francois Beaulieu for coloring and Jeff Eckleberry for lettering. [Read more…] about Rocket Raccoon #2 Review!
