Ant-Man has always been an underdog, a fighter for the literal little guy, but it wasn’t until Guardians of the Galaxy took the world by storm that it truly felt like Marvel’s gutsiest and riskiest movie by a long shot. I mean, Ant-Man was a founding member of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s Avengers, as well as a founding member of Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch’s Ultimates. Hank Pym is one of the smartest men in the Marvel Universe, often seen science-ing with Reed Richards, Tony Stark, and hank McCoy. Surely he belongs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe more than a ragtag Guardians team no one had heard of until 2008? [Read more…] about The World’s Only Ant-Man Movie Review

Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Review! The Best Marvel Movie Yet?
I had impossibly high expectations for Guardians of the Galaxy. Honestly, I don’t remember ever expecting a movie from Marvel Studios to be so good. With Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man I generally just hope the movie is great, and then I’m thrilled when it exceeds expectations (see: Iron Man 3, Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier), and not altogether depressed when it flounders (see: Iron Man 2). How Joss Whedon and Tony Stark brought Marvel’s The Avengers Full Circle
You’ve already read most of the superlatives, and in all likelihood you’ve already seen the film. At this point you get it: Marvel’s The Avengers is a great movie. I won’t sit here and pretend I have anything to add to that discussion outside of “squee!!!” and “Whedon could do anything he wants to me and I wouldn’t even care, man.” The Avengers is constantly exciting, does a great job tying together the entire Marvel Universe, and gets increasingly hilarious as characters are established. Go see it. Review over.
I’d like to spend the rest of the post taking a look at why one particular character had to be the focal hero of The Avengers. Naturally, with a team of super heroes, there are quite a few options Joss Whedon had to choose from. It’s my contention that the primary hero of the film was perfectly chosen. Spoilers follow, so run like blazes away from this post if you haven’t seen the film yet. [Read more…] about How Joss Whedon and Tony Stark brought Marvel’s The Avengers Full Circle
