Prose and Cons: Do Marvel Novels Defeat the Point of Comics?

December 24, 2011 by Dave 3 Comments

Newsarama reported just a few short days ago that Marvel will begin a series of prose novels (like, real books with words!) starting with an adaptation of Civil War. Keep reading to find out: Are prose versions of Marvel comics a good idea? What kind of readers are these books for? Has there ever, in the history of human civilization, been an example of a person advancing their love for the Marvel universe through books without pictures? Is that person writing the post you’re reading? And is he really as handsome as he seems?

Dark Knight Rises Trailer: Can Nolan Follow Up the Joker? Kinda Looks Like It

December 20, 2011 by Dave Leave a Comment

Compared to the last comic book movie trailer I posted (see: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance), the new Dark Knight Rises trailer looks like a ball of Citizen Kane wrapped in bacon-flavored whiskey. Both delicious, dangerously manly and on a fast track for critical acclaim. Of course, that’s not setting the bar particularly high.

So how does the Dark Knight Rises really look? Click on through to watch the trailer (probably again) and share your thoughts on my thoughts! [Read more…] about Dark Knight Rises Trailer: Can Nolan Follow Up the Joker? Kinda Looks Like It

Ghost Ride the Whip: Spirit of Vengeance Trailer Exists Against All Odds

December 17, 2011 by Dave Leave a Comment

There’s something to be said for the cajones on the Marvel execs who decided to greenlight a second Ghostrider film. I mean, the first was ballsy enough (the fact that it got made… not the plot), but it came at a weird time in our nation’s history. Non-existant WMD’s were all the rage, special effects had finally caught up to superhero movies, and Elektra had her own feature length cure-for-insomnia. Everybody was getting their own superhero movie. I’m pretty sure Batroc the Leaper starred in a flick with Paul Rudd portraying him. It was a simpler time.  [Read more…] about Ghost Ride the Whip: Spirit of Vengeance Trailer Exists Against All Odds

The Super Permanent, Non-Revocable Death of Captain America

December 14, 2011 by Dave 1 Comment

In today’s Marvel Review, Comic Book Herald dives into the funnest of laughfests: Death of Icons! What does it mean for readers today when a major hero like Captain America is killed? Can it affect us emotionally anymore? Should it? How has the predictable and mockable cycle of death and rebirth in comics sabotaged the impact of the “death story”? Would it be better if dead heroes stayed dead? Is death even the end? Can what-is-not be and can what-can-not-be is? Keep reading to find out!

Iron Fist: Second-Rate Kung Fu Reject Or Immortal Icon?

December 5, 2011 by Dave 2 Comments

In today’s Marvel Review, Comic Book Herald takes a look at a few pressing issues. Just how immortal is the Immortal Iron Fist? How did the character of Danny Rand make it out of the 70’s Kung Fu craze in tact? Just how stunning are Kim Kardashian’s curves? And most importantly: What makes for truly timeless art?  [Read more…] about Iron Fist: Second-Rate Kung Fu Reject Or Immortal Icon?
