Whenever the subject comes up, I tell myself I’m not very into toys and collectibles. Then I look at the top of my bookshelf, and see Spider-Man bubbles, Mr. Krabs, a Doctor Doom bank, and plush Darth Vader lined up sequentially *ahead* of my romantic “pics with wife from college” montage.
Turns out I might like toys and collectibles.
My favorite piece – by far – is a complete Marvel Chess set from Eaglemoss collections. I’ve written about the extremely fun chess board before (Cap and Red Skull facing off as Kings on the board has never felt more timely!), but recently Eaglemoss asked if I’d be interested in some of their DC collectibles. Given my enjoyment of the first item (Ultron to Rook 4 ftw (I don’t know chess language at all)), I was only happy to check it out.
Eaglemoss sent me their latest Harley Quinn figurine, part of the DC Comics Super Hero Collection. The hand painted Ms. Quinzel comes in her classic Batman Animated Series costume, with a sturdy base, making it easy to place her around the office wherever villainous plotting requires a little chaos.
My biggest criticism of the Harley figure is the absence of a giant hammer, although a pop gun is an adequate substitute.
Additional DC Comics Super Heroes Collection figurines largely come from the Bat-family, and can be seen highlighted in the image below.
My favorite part of the Eaglemoss collections is that each figurine comes with its own book describing the character’s history, complete with in-panel references to comics. These are nice explainer introductions for brand new fans, and a nice complement to Comic Book Herald’s Harley Quinn reading order.
Again, I’ve had pretty good experiences with Eagelemoss, and if you’re into the toys and collectibles scene (or, you know, just have a bookshelf full) I recommend giving them a look.
