GOTHAM: Pilot Review! How Does Batman’s City Hold Up on TV?

September 23, 2014 by Drew Narayanan 1 Comment

I know many fans have been waiting for this show since it was first announced. I myself have been combing the internet for the last year for every piece of information, finding every plot tid-bit to promo. Now that it is finally here, how does “Gotham” stack up? To be fair, Batman has not had the most impressive track record for live-action television adaptions. Other than the Adam West “Batman TV Show” from the 1960s, there was the financial failure “Birds of Prey” (2002) which was a poor adaption of the Batman mythos. Thus “Gotham” marks the first time in over 50 years that a live-action story of the “Dark Knight” returns to the small screen. So is the pilot of “Gotham” a grand success, or did it fall flat on its face? [Read more…] about GOTHAM: Pilot Review! How Does Batman’s City Hold Up on TV?

Riddle Me This?: Detective Comics- Future’s End #1 Review!

September 12, 2014 by Drew Narayanan Leave a Comment

For me, the “Future’s End” storyline has been a swing and a miss. Though I was very happy to see Terry McGinnis become part of the Batman canon, there seems to be too much going on. With Brother Eye’s assimilation of everything, Brainiac’s imminent return, and a masked Superman revealed to be Captain Marvel, I was craving something far more simple. Thus, I was very pleased when I read this one shot “Future’s End” issue in “Detective Comics.” [Read more…] about Riddle Me This?: Detective Comics- Future’s End #1 Review!

Detective Annual #3: Seventy-Five Years of Batman

August 29, 2014 by Drew Narayanan Leave a Comment

Happy 75th Birthday Batman! Seventy-five years ago Bob Kane created a character in “Detective Comics”. Batman continues to have a huge impact, not only among comic book fans, but in popular culture as a whole (Dark Knight films, Arkham video games). In honor of the years of entertainment and joy that Batman has brought me and fans across the world, I will review the 75th “Detective Comics Annual” issue. “Batman Eternal #18” Review! A Blast of Social Commentary

August 14, 2014 by Drew Narayanan Leave a Comment

I’ll admit I was not a fan of “Batman: Eternal” when it first came out. I knew it was another ploy to get me to pay $3.99 a week for a rushed comic. For those of you who don’t know, the storyline for this weekly (one year) series is horribly generic. Commissioner Gordon is framed for causing the death of several hundred people on a subway while gang wars break out throughout Gotham. Batman must race against the clock with the help of Jay Bard (a new addition to GCPD) to save his friend and protect the city. To me, it sounded like a revamp of the Batman: Animated Series episode “Shadow of the Bat” where Two-Face and Lt. Gil Mason frame Gordon for bribery. While I did pick up the issues every week (being a loyal Bat-fan), I found them dull, the characters boring, all in all a lackluster project. [Read more…] about “Batman Eternal #18” Review!
