Power Rangers Comics Reading Order (BOOM! Studios)

April 22, 2017 by Dave 3 Comments

Despite spending some of my childhood in the 90’s, I never really got into Power Rangers as it swept away kids around me. I have a vague memory of my parents not feeling to keen about the violence in the show, but I was watching Wolverine stab a LOT of creatures on X-Men: The Animated Series, so who knows.

Either way, when Halloween brought out the Pink and Green Ranger costumes for most, I was sitting quite contently in a KNOCKOUT homemade Nightcrawler costume and more azure face paint than the Blue Man Group would know what to do with.

All of this is to say, while I have general knowledge of the Power Rangers mythos, and would have sworn my heart in marriage to Kimberly literally ANY moment prior to my marriage, most of what I know about Power Rangers comes from comics. (You could replace _Power Rangers_ with virtually any topic, and that sentence would still hold true. Even “child birth” thanks to Miracleman!)

Below you’ll find a comic book reading order for Power Rangers stories. If you have questions or feedback, don’t hesitate to do what feels right to you in the comments below. Enjoy the comics!

Since there hasn’t been an update in a while, here’s some help to those that need it:
    Main series:
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 1 (MMPR)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 2
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 3
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Lost Chronicles Vol 1
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 4
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 5
Go Go Power Rangers Vol 1 (GGPR)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 6
Go Go Power Rangers Vol 2
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 7 (Shattered Grid Event)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Free Comic Book Day Special (Shattered Grid Event)
Go Go Power Rangers Vol 3 (Shattered Grid Event)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Lost Chronicles Vol 2
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 8 (Shattered Grid Event)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 9 (Beyond the Grid story arc)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 10 (Beyond the Grid story arc)
Go Go Power Rangers Vol 4
Go Go Power Rangers Vol 5
Go Go Power Rangers Vol 6
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 11 (Necessary Evil)
Go Go Power Rangers Vol 7 (Necessary Evil)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 12 (Necessary Evil)
Go Go Power Rangers Vol 8 (Necessary Evil)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 13 (Necessary Evil)
Go Go Power Rangers Vol 9 (Necessary Evil)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Vol 14 (Necessary Evil)
Power Rangers: Drakkon New Dawn (Sees the Ranger Slayer becoming the ruler of her home and dealing with a prison with secrets that Lord Drakkon left behind.)
These next two books are jumping on points if you haven’t been able to keep up with all the previous stories.
Mighty Morphin Vol 1 (Don’t get confused now. This series is about the main Ranger team dealing with a new Green Ranger that IS NOT Tommy, who is now the White Ranger.)
Power Rangers Vol 1 (This series is about the Omega Rangers teaming up with Lord Drakkon to beat a new threat.)
    Other books:
Power Rangers Unlimited: Edge of Darkness (Origin stories for the Phantom Ranger and the villain Astronema from the Turbo and In Space seasons, respectively.)
Power Rangers: Pink (This takes place after Kim leaves the team in season 3. Since the comics haven’t caught up to this point yet, read this whenever you want.)
Power Rangers: Sins of the Future (Takes place after the Time Force season and deals with Wes and Jen’s romance possibly changing the human race’s future.)
Power Rangers: The Psycho Path (Takes place post Lost Galaxy season and sees the return of the Psycho Rangers and Ranger siblings, Andros (In Space Red Ranger) and Karone (Lost Galaxy Pink Ranger) venturing to destroy them and answer how they returned.)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Justice League/Power Rangers (These crossovers can be read at any time and don’t affect the main books at all.)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rise of Drakkon (Collects previously published materials from issues of MMPR and GGPR to tell the origin story of Lord Drakkon.)
Power Rangers: Aftershock (Takes place after the 2017 movie.)
Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon (Set in the S.P.D. period of the Ranger timeline and sees an adult Tommy going off to rescue his son.)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Archives Vol 1 and 2 (Completely unrelated to the Boom Studios books. Collects stories from other publishers about various Ranger teams from various writers and artists.)

Hey Dave! Just wondering if an update was coming to this guide – trying to catch up on the books but it seems to be all over the shop these days!

Hey just wanted to say that Volume 2 does not include the 2016 Annual. At least not in my copy from Comixology and nowhere I’ve looked seem to mention it for the physical copies either. Anyways, keep up the good work!
