Doctor Who Reading Order (Titan Comics)!

August 28, 2020 by Ben Savill 1 Comment

Doctor Who is a globally renowned sci-fi TV series which started back in 1963. There have been many other multi-media platforms that have emerged from the TV show, especially since its 2005 reboot, but Titans Comics’ Doctor Who comics have been one of the most successful of these ‘spin-offs.’ While there have been many different publishers to take on the task of producing Doctor Who comics, none have been as successful as Titan.

Since debuting in 2015, the Titan Doctor Who universe has combined continuity and ease of entry for new readers. The comics emphasize modern incarnations of the Doctor, but there have still been stories and appearances from classic incarnations to please classic fans as well. While the TV show has disappointed of late, the comics label is still riding high. This page describes the details of how best to read and enjoy this excellent new series.

Who can read this series?

Titan Comics has made this series accessible for new readers, life-long fans and people who’ve never heard of Doctor Who before! While it’s beneficial to know some basic information or to have watched the show, this is certainly not necessary, with Titan providing a page at the front of each paperback collection with necessary information of characters or previous events needed to read that certain issue. This can be a great way for new fans to dive into the world of Doctor Who, especially if comics are a preferred media to the TV show.

Reading Order

  1. Classic Who stories
  2. Ninth Doctor Series
  3. Tenth Doctor Series plus time lord victorious
  4. Eleventh Doctor Series plus multi-doctor events
  5. Twelfth Doctor Series plus multi-doctor events
  6. Thirteenth Doctor Series

Classic Who Stories:

These are individual stories from these doctors- it is currently unknown whether this will be expanded to include more classic doctors.

Third Doctor- The Heralds of Destruction– collects the third doctor #1-5

Fourth Doctor- Gaze of the Medusa– collects forth doctor #1-5

Seventh Doctor- Operation Volcano– collects seventh doctor #1-3

Eighth Doctor- A matter of life and death– collects eighth doctor #1-5

Amazing Spider-Man Marvel GIT comics collection

Ninth Doctor:

My personal favorite series- this was the first series produced and is a fantastic story combined with great artwork- these stories are continuous, one after the next.

Weapons of Past Destruction– Collects: Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor #1-5 (miniseries- even though the story directly relates to next one!)

Doctormania– Collects: Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor #1-5 (ongoing series)

Official Secrets– Collects: Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor #6-10 (ongoing series)

Sin Eaters– Collects: Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor #11-15 (ongoing series- last volume)

Tenth Doctor:

One of the most popular doctors of all time (my favorite on TV) sees an expansion in volumes from 4 to 10 and also sees a brand-new companion in the comics for first time

Year one:

Revolutions of Terror– Collects: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #1-5.

The Weeping Angels of Mons– Collects: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #6-10

The Fountains of Forever– Collects: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #11-15

(The first 3 volumes can be bought in Tenth Doctor year one complete collection- however this was only produced for the first year of the Tenth Doctor’s comics.)

Year 2:

The Endless Song– Collects: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #2.1-2.5

Arena of Fear– Collects: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #2.6-2.10

Sins of the Father– Collects: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #2.11-2.14

War of Gods– Collects: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #2.15-2.17 and 3.5 (part of year 3)

Year 3:

Facing Fate Breakfast at Tyranny’s– Collects: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #3.1-3.4

Facing Fate Vortex Butterflies– Collects: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #3.6-3.10

Facing Fate The Good Companion– Collects: Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #3.11-3.14

Time Lord Victorious:

The hugely anticipated multi-media event comes to Titan Comics in September 2020 with 2 over-sized issues featuring the return of the Tenth Doctor and the long-awaited Titans Comics debut for the daleks. This may link in to the current thirteenth doctor series, but this is unconfirmed so for now in chronology is after the Facing Fate series.

This miniseries will be created by the same team that is currently creating the Thirteenth Doctor series- watch this space for future developments!

The Eleventh Doctor:

The Eleventh Doctor series, like with the Tenth Doctor, features a new companion- but only 9 volumes instead of 9.

Year 1:

After Life– Collects: Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #1-5

Serve You– Collects: Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #6-10

Conversion– Collects: Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #11-15

Again, like the Tenth Doctor, year one can be purchased in collected omnibus

Year 2:

The Then and the Now– Collects: Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #2.1-2.5

The One– Collects: Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #2.6-2.10

The Malignant Truth– Collects: Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #2.11-2.15

Year 3:

The Sapling, Growth– Collects: Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #3.1-3.4

The Sapling, Roots– Collects: Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #3.5-3.8

The Sapling, Branches– Collects: Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor #3.9, 3.11-3.13

Four Doctor Whos all togetherMulti-Doctor Stories:

These stories feature doctors up to, and including, the Eleventh Doctor- I will not specify which as this may spoil enjoyment of these stories!

Supremacy of the Cybermen– Collects: Doctor Who: Supremacy of the Cybermen #1-5. Celebrating 50 years of the Cybermen

The Lost Dimension Book 1– Collects: Doctor Who: The Lost Dimension – Alpha, The Ninth Doctor Special #1, Doctor Who: Tenth Doctor #3.9, and Doctor Who: Eleventh Doctor #3.10.

The Lost Dimension Book 2– Collects: Doctor Who: The Lost Dimension Special #1, Doctor Who: Twelfth Doctor #3.8, Doctor Who: The Lost Dimension Special #2, Doctor Who: The Lost Dimension – Omega.

Twelfth Doctor

First time since Ninth Doctor that original TV companion is used

Year 1-

Terrorformer– Collects: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #1-5

Marvel Amazing Spider-Man GIT digital comics collection

Fractures– Collects: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #6-10

Hyperion– Collects: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #11-15

This can also be purchased in collected omnibus that also features 2015 Holiday Special- which isn’t collected in any other edition- unlike with the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, this may be the best edition to purchase.

Year 2-

The School of Death– Collects: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #2.1-2.5

The Twist– Collects: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #2.6-2.10

Sonic Boom– Collects: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #2.11-2.15

Year 3-

Time Trials The Terror Beneath– Collects: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #3.1-3.4

Time Trials Wolves of Winter– Collects: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #3.5-3.9

Time Trials A Confusion of Angels– Collects: Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #3.10-3.13

Multi-Doctor Stories:

These multi-doctor stories are from after the Twelfth Doctor’s 3 series of comics

Four Doctors– Collects: Doctor Who: Four Doctors #1-5.

The Road to the Thirteenth Doctor– Collects: Doctor Who: The Road to the Thirteenth Doctor: The Tenth Doctor #1, Doctor Who: The Road to the Thirteenth Doctor: The Eleventh Doctor #2, Doctor Who: The Road to the Thirteenth Doctor: The Twelfth Doctor #3. This was a strange idea considering it hasn’t been done with any of the other doctors- mostly a promotion issue this- can be skipped.

The 13th Doctor Who in Titan Comic Books

The Thirteenth Doctor:

My least favorite series mostly because artwork comes across as childish and not realistic looking, The cross-over with Tenth Doctor was an excellent idea though. This series is ongoing and sees all 3 companions from TV series feature.

Year 1:

A New beginning– Collects: Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor #1-4

Hidden Human History– Collects: Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor #5-8

Old Friends– Collects: Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor #9-12.

2019 also sees release of 2 holiday specials due to there not being a TV holiday special in 2019.

Year 2:

A Tale of Two Time Lords– Collects: Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor – Year Two #1-4
