In some very unexpected ways, I’ve found myself appreciating Punisher more and more after seeing and thinking about Black Panther.
While the entries in the MCU are very different, I repeatedly found myself extending praise toward Black Panther for approaches the Punisher mirrors. Black Panther Review! All The Stars Are Gold
That a movie can intelligently reflect big picture racial politics and simultaneously have me turn to my wife mid-battle and squeal “THEY BROUGHT RHINOS” is nothing short of miraculous. Jonathan Hickman Marvel Universe Reading Order (2008 to 2016)
Without question, the writing and vision of Jonathan Hickman across the Marvel Universe is my favorite modern run in superhero comics. Working with a roster of incredible artistic storytellers like Esad Ribic, Jerome Opena, and Dale Eaglesham (among many others), the Marvel Hickman-verse is wonderfully plotted and thematically connected from the Dark Reign era Secret Warriors through 2015’s mega-event Secret Wars.
