Another good year for comics on the page, if not in the news. While Big 2 publishers Marvel and DC were called out for their internal rot (indie publishers were hardly spared as well), comics kept on comic’ing, and we got a number of great stories and art across a variety of mediums.
I’ve detailed some of my favorites (like the best comic book movies of 2017 or the best DC Comics of 2017) elsewhere across Comic Book Herald, but below you’ll find a series of lists detailing all my faves for 2017.
These are largely lists without commentary, but suffice it to say they are ordered in general order of preference.
2017 Comic Book TV
This list is basically Legion and friends. Runaways had the potential to rival the Noah Hawley production, but honestly the adaptation’s major changes and love of decompression isn’t for me. Nonetheless, I can see that Runaways is a very well crafted TV show, and I’m genuinely interested in the story telling choices made each week.
Important caveat that I haven’t even finished Netflix Punisher as I’ve been doing a Daredevil season two rewatch for approximately 13 years.

Any love for Valiant comics this year or do they merit their own mini list!? I’m a Trade behind, but X-O has been an excellent War comic with top class art. And so far so great with Bloodshot. Looking forward to the crossover event in 2018.
Ha I actually had a whole separate Valiant minilist carved out, but I’m too behind on the books to publish. Valiant’s still rolling pretty strong these days.
