Legion of Super-Heroes Reading Order!

May 15, 2019 by Dave 1 Comment

The Legion of Super-Heroes is a glorious early Silver Age DC Universe concept, frankly never adequately replicated across any version of the distinguished competition. The legion is a superpowered collection of galactic teenagers (generally) ensuring justice for the late 30th and early 31st centuries!

Keeping tabs on the expansive Legion of Super-Heroes roster can stretch even the most dedicated comic book fans to their limit, but members have included Lightning Lad, Star boy, Saturn Girl, Bouncing Boy (the greatest, obviously), Braniac 5, Dream Girl, and Mon-El (among many, many, many others).

Related Reading Orders:

Superman

Supergirl

Below you’ll find a complete guide to the Legion of Super-Heroes comics throughout DC history, with my personal favorites noted with the Comic Book Herald logo next to the series title.

Starting with what *would* have been Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #259, the Legion gets the series title all to themselves, just in time for the 1980s (as you can see, though, the series numbering remained the same). This era will transition us from the Gerry Conway written years to the Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen era!

During the Geoff Johns written era of Teen Titans, new Superboy Conner Kent suddenly finds himself transported in time and paired with the Legion of Super-Heroes. It’s a nice homage to the Legion’s ties to Superboy, and a good way of joining the two teen teams together in the early 2000’s.

Johns time on Superman includes this story where the future of the Legion of Super-Heroes is manipulated by a demagogue preaching a false narrative of Superman as a “true” Earthling, and not an alien Kryptonion.

This is very useful for identifying gaps in my collection. Are there plans to update it to include more recent Legion tales?
