November 27 2019 – the day before Thanksgiving – was the first new comic book day in approximately 4 months with at least three new X-Men comics released on the same day.

Appropriately, my varying reactions to the releases are a healthy reminder that more is not always better, and that one of House of X and Dawn of X’s greatest strengths has been a healthy sense of curation (Marvel as a whole is otherwise comically overproducing books these days). Big picture, New Mutants is a book I expected to enjoy, and lo and behold, nothing has changed, whereas X-Force had a make-or-break second issue actually sell me on many of the comic’s bolder first issue choices.

And then there’s Fallen Angels #2, which I’m increasingly convinced is the only absolute dud of the Dawn of X.

Welcome to Comic Book Herald’s countdown of the best comic books of the decade! Throughout the remainder of 2019, Dave and John will be picking the best 70 books of the 2010’s, and writing a few thoughts on their picks.

As you’d expect, many of these will come from Comic Book Herald’s 500 best comics of all time, of course editing for those that have been released in the past 10 years. A scathing Alan Moore quote from a few years back blew up recently (thanks @Kylepinion!), and its incisive fury is clearly getting under a lot of people’s skin, from comic creators to critics to fans. Moore – a creator I still have ranked as my favorite comic book writer of all time – manages to call adults into superheroes (and I’m paraphrasing with my tongue lodged somewhere in the middle of my cheek) racist babies.
