Maximum Carnage is one of the most frequently mentioned events in Marvel history. It’s up there with the Age of Apocalypse and Planet Hulk in terms of story arc names that just stick. In a lot of ways, the coolness of the name and the suggestion that this is the defining Carnage vs. Spider-Man story sets the bar a little too high.
Nonetheless, Maximum Carnage is pure ridiculous 90’s Spider-Man. You should find this one a whole heck of a lot more understandable than The Clone Saga, though. It has a very distinct 90’s flair, which is to say you’ll encounter “who the heck?” characters such as Carrion and Demogoblin.
