The word retcon gets thrown around – sometimes wildly, sometimes recklessly – a lot in comic book circles to describe an act of rewriting a character’s history, changing seemingly fundamental details long thought to be that character’s truth. X-Men #10 by Jonathan Hickman, Leinil Francis Yu and Sunny Gho is the first in-series Empyre event tie-in, and uses the Marvel Universe invasion of plant-alien Cotati on the Moon to dig into the secret mysterious of Vulcan, Gabriel Summers, the third Summers brother. Exaclibur has grown into the series I always wanted it to be. Across issues 9 and 10, Tini Howard, Marcus To and the creative unit have built up a saga of multiverses, alternate realities, and an all-new Captain Britain Corps that both fits into the legacy of Marvel’s Exaclibur dating back to the late 80’s, and provides our first serious glimpse into alternate realities in Dawn of X.
